CIREE organises its work into research themes. Each theme gathers projects that unfold as chapters: the question, the place, the methods, the people and what was found.
Theme 01
Species, habitats and the relationships that hold living systems together.
How organisms interact with one another and with the places they live: populations, communities and habitats, and the processes that connect them across seasons and decades.
Theme 02
Water, soil, air and climate, read as one connected system.
The physical systems that life depends on, from catchments and soils to weather and climate, and how pressure on one part of a system travels through the rest.
Theme 03
Patient observation in the places where change actually happens.
Work that begins outdoors. Surveys, sampling, monitoring and long-form observation ground every question in real places and real evidence.
Theme 04
Questions too large for any single discipline.
Ecological and environmental science in conversation with other fields of knowledge, so that research reflects how complex, real-world systems actually behave.

Research shared openly with the people it concerns.
Programmes, events and public work that open research up to students, communities, partners and anyone curious about the living world.
